Craft and Chat: Dreamcatcher Making with Jennifer Bowles
Join us for an intimate Dreamcatcher making with Jennifer Bowles in honor of Truth and Reconciliation. This free, hands-on evening is an opportunity to connect through creativity, conversation and community. Learn the art of the dreamcatcher and how the dreamcatcher came to be in a welcoming, supportive environment while taking the time to reflect on the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation. All supplies are provided, and no previous crafting experience is necessary.
Jennifer Bowles is a Cree artist from Nekaneet First Nation in Saskatchewan who proudly calls Medicine Hat home. Although she was not raised with a strong connection to her Indigenous culture, she reconnected with her roots in 2016 and has since embraced traditional crafting as both a creative outlet and a meaningful way to celebrate her heritage.
Jen creates a wide variety of handcrafted pieces, including dreamcatchers, medicine bags, bead embroidery, single strand keychains, and lanyards, with her beautifully crafted fringe earrings becoming a signature speciality. Living with health challenges means she isn't always able to create everything she'd like, but her passion and creativity shine through in every piece. By upcycling and repurposing jewelry and other materials, Jen transforms them into one-of-a-kind creations that reflect her resourcefulness, artistry, and unique perspective.
