Shangri-La

One night in late August of 1963, in the prairie town of Millard we meet 14 year old Jeanne McCate: her sixteen year old sister is pregnant; her Dad has been drinking; her Mom has been swearing; and Jeanne is hanging on for dear life in her own hilarious and heartfelt way… and all before the big dance! Caught between her own family crisis, community mores and the limits of family loyalty, Jeanne turns to pop songs, 45s and her imagination to, as her mother says, “pull herself together.” Shangri-La by the independant theatre company Sodhouse Theatre of Saskatchewan based in Regina premiered to sold-out audiences in the fall of 2013 as part of the 2013/2014 Shumiatcher Sandbox Series at Regina’s Globe Theatre.

Sodhouse Theatre of Saskatchewan will be in the Studio Theatre on Saturday February 13 at 8 PM. Ticket to see this Pick of the Edmonton Fringe is $22 (+s/c +gst). You can also see both Fringe shows in the series for $40 (+s/c +gst) by clicking HERE.

Les Ballet Jazz de Montreal

An internationally renowned contemporary dance company, BJM - Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal is a repertory company that presents a hybrid form of dance that combines the aesthetics of classical ballet and embraces many other different styles of dance. Very contemporary in its current approach, BJM performances are sexy, explosive, original and accessible, and its superb dancers are widely acclaimed. The term “jazz” in the name refers more to a “jazzing up” of classical ballet rather than a musical or dance style.
