    Painting in the Park

    Painting in the Park

Painting in the Park. Wednesdays, 5:30 - 7:00, 4-week session at Strathcona Park
    June 3, 10, 17, 24 - $180

Offered in partnership with Parks and Recreation, this beginner adult program (ages 17+) invites participants to explore the art of plein air (outdoor) painting in our beautiful city parks. Taking place over four Wednesday evenings in June (5:30–7:00 pm), the workshop blends close observation of nature with practical painting techniques.

Under the guidance of local artist Ruth Adams, students will begin by learning how to create expressive watercolour sketches outdoors, developing their ability to see and interpret the natural world. As the sessions progress, they’ll build on these studies to create a final watercolour painting inspired by their observations and experiences in the landscape. Please dress for the weather and bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on, otherwise all materials will be provided. Make-up sessions may be rescheduled in the case of inclement weather. Class will begin nearest to the boat launch.

A patron may withdraw their registration up to two weeks prior to the start date and will be issued a full refund. No refund will be issued within the two weeks prior to the start date, but withdrawals during that time period will be considered on a case by case basis and may result in a credit applied to the patron’s name. No credit or refund will be issued to any withdrawals within three business days before the start date of the program.

    About the Instructor:

Ruth brings over 20 years of experience in ceramics, painting, and arts education, along with a Bachelor’s degree in Art. She’s known for creating a relaxed and welcoming environment where adults of all skill levels can feel encouraged to experiment, take creative risks, and enjoy the artistic process. Previously, Ruth inspired students through the “Artist in the Classroom” program in local schools. Now, she brings that same enthusiasm and deep knowledge to adult learners, helping them reconnect with creativity through meaningful, hands-on art experiences.
